Bluetooth on iOS !

Belledonne Communications today announced the new release of Linphone for iOS that supports Bluetooth headset.


This new version includes also various improvements like:

  • Russian translation
  • Possibility to go to the history from a missed call notification
  • Support PLC for iLBC codec


Various bugs have been fixed:

  • Fix issue with wrong IOUnit category being used causing a no audio issue
  • Fix video decline on iPad

Linphone 2.0 for iPhone, iPad and Android

The new version V2.0  includes significant enhancements in the new ergonomic shape with a curved face interface, the integration of the address book and an account creation assistant...

Two major new core features have been added : a text messaging feature (chat) with delivery status notification and ICE support (RFC5246) to allow peer to peer audio & video connections without media relay server.

Also, Linphone integrates the new following features :

- Built in SIP account creation assistant coupled with our free SIP service on linphone.org.
- Rich call history-Integrated (in-app) settings for iOS
- Use of push notification (requires compatible SIP server) for more reliable incoming call or chat notification
- Display of advanced call statistics
- Low bandwidth mode: make audio calls over EDGE

G729 Codec

Belledonne Communications released bcg729, the first open-source G729 codec implementation written in C.

This new codec is now available in the Linphone product suite.

Linphone supports video calls on IOS !

We just published on the Apple store a new release of Linphone for IOS that supports video calls.

Supported video codecs are VP8 (WEBM), H264 and mpeg4. Supported resolution is QVGA (320x240) at 12 fps.

This works on phones models using an ARMv7 processor with NEON instruction set (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4/4S, iPad) starting from IOS 4.x. IOS 3.x is still supported but for audio only.

This new release also introduce some nice features like, SILK (Skype codec), multi calls and audio conferencing.

We just published on the Android market a new release of linphone for android that supports video calls.

Supported codecs are mpeg4 (320x240 @ 20 fps) and H264 (QCIF @ 7 fps), based on libavcodec and x264 open source projects.

This works on phones models using an ARMv7 processor with NEON instruction set (nexus, samsung galaxy, htc desire ...).

Linphone for Blackberry available !

After iOS and Android, it's now time for Blackberry to run Linphone !

The Linphone's team is pleased to release a new port of Linphone on Blackberry.

Linphone for BlackBerry OS is a completely java rewritten Linphone leveraging on the java version of libblinphone API we have developed for Android. A java port of oRTP called jortp has been developed. The core (I.E jliblinphone) is a strict implementation of the java version of linphonecore.


Main features are:

  • Audio only based on built-in AMR-NB codec, running with very low latency.
  • Native contact list integration.
  • Call history.
  • Both sip tcp and udp.
  • Limited supported device, Bold series with OS > 5.0 .
  • Both wifi and 3G support.
  • GNU GPL v2 license or proprietary license.

Linphone available for Iphone 3G and Ipod touch !

We are pleased to annouce that Linphone is now available for all Iphones and Ipod touch!

This Linphone version can be installed from the AppStore from any Iphone 3G, 3GS and Ipod touch (3rd generation).

It supports G711, speex narrowband and wideband and iLBC codecs. Configured with a SIP gateway itallows to run calls to PSTN numbers using 3G or wifi.

Thanks to the Iphone's AudioUnit sound API, we could achieve a very good sound quality (low latency, make use of the iphone's integrated echo canceler).

Next possible evolutions include:

  • Support for incoming calls at any time using the new APIs introduced in IphoneOS 4.0

Belledonne Communications offers customisation services and commercial licensing for companies interested in deploying their own softphone on mobile platforms.

Linphone was already working on Android mobile phones. We will continue our effort on making Linphone available on most mobile operating systems.

Linphone is now available as an Android application !

We are pleased to annouce that we have just released a linphone version for Google Android phones.

This application is available for free through the Google Market for all people having an Android phone. It is possible to use linphone on android to make VoIP calls using wifi or 3G (make sure it is allowed by your operator before).

This application is of course built over our liblinphone VoIP library that has been added with a JNI glue and Java API since Android is a java based.

This is the first release of linphone on android, and we wish to continue the development in the coming year to bring many improvements, including:

  • run as a service to allow to receive calls all the time (not just when the application is showed)
  • video support
  • optimize battery savings
